We’re Here For Such A Short Time

“Blessed be the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to his abundant mercy
has begotten us again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead, to an inheritance
incorruptible and undefiled
and that does not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you…”
1st Peter 1:3-4
We’re only here for a comparatively short time. Thousands of years have gone before us, and there are many years to come. We’re here for maybe 80, some more, some less. It only makes sense therefore, to be heavenly minded and concerned about how we spend these few years in light of eternity. Our first concern should be to find out what the truth is, because the world is filled with deception.
God has given us his Word (the Scriptures) to reveal to us the truth. People in hell are not there because of sin, they’re there because they rejected or ignored the Word of God, as he made clear in Luke 16:29, 31:
“Abraham said to him,
‘They have Moses and the prophets;
(the Scriptures) let them hear them.’
And he said, ‘No, father Abraham;
but if one goes to them
from the dead, they will repent.’
But he said to him,
‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded
though one rise from the dead.’
If one rejects or ignores the source of truth, nothing will be able to bring that person to salvation.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says God has put eternity into our hearts to help keep our minds fixed on this. It’s our choice: focus on this life, or the investment of our lives for our eternity.
“But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly one.
Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God,
for he has prepared a city for them.”
Hebrews 11:16
